Go to Google and search for Life2Vec crypto, and you’ll find a stack of articles that are at odds with one another on even what they’re talking about. Some refer to it as a groundbreaking blockchain venture with its own roadmap. Others call it a no-brainer scam and just dismiss it. Some simply repeat the 3 paragraphs describing a research paper and that’s it. All of this doesn’t really address the question most people entering the phrase into Google want answered: Is this something worth trusting, or is it a place to put money anywhere near?
The answer is: Life2Vec, the research, is true, and it’s a very good and respected AI project from Denmark. The coin itself is called Life2Vec Crypto, and it’s not real. The actual model makers have stated this on their own site, more than once. All the things that are traded under that name on a memecoin launcher are completely separate from that research, and as far as we could check, exist only to attract people looking for it, or just for a speculative purchase, but have no intention of doing what they advertise.
There are two paragraphs, and that is all the story. Here is all that it entails.
So, what is Life2Vec actually?
Life2Vec was initially an academic project and not a product. It’s the result of a collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the IT University of Copenhagen, and Northeastern University, led by DTU professor Sune Lehmann, first-authored by researcher Germans Savcisens, with Northeastern’s Tina Eliassi-Rad among the co-authors. In December 2023, the team shared their work in Nature Computational Science, titled “Using Sequences of Life-Events to Predict Human Lives.
The concept is indeed intriguing, and the headlines generated by it were quite alarming, with the word AI followed by predicts your death. The researchers use the same approach as a language model: think of a human life as a sequence that has order and context, and those affect meaning. The building blocks are life events, which are taken from the Danish national registry data including some 6 million people, with health records, education, income, employment, and address code, including working hours all down to the day. Input plenty of these sequences to a transformer model, which is the same technology that a large language model uses to learn about which words tend to follow other words, and patterns begin to emerge.
Although it was the mortality prediction that made headlines, it wasn’t the only thing on which the model was tested. To estimate the migration out of Denmark and to check for a relationship to personality traits measured by separate surveys, the same approach was used. The death rate is the one that’s always misquoted, however: Life2Vec correctly predicted 78.8% of those who would die within four years in a balanced test set of people between 35 and 65 years old. This is a real number, but it is not “The model knows your death date. It is a statistical guess in a specified population in a controlled trial, and the researchers have explicitly stated as such on their own website.
No App and no API. The dataset and model are not accessible from the open internet, but are kept at Statistics Denmark with the same restrictions as the remainder of the sensitive register. If a website states that you can run your data through Life2Vec, this is not the actual model, since the real model is not available to use in this manner by anyone outside of the research team itself.
Where the Crypto Angle Came From
As with all AI research that goes viral, the irresistible headline was AI can predict when you’ll die, and it permeated mainstream news and social media feeds throughout late 2023 and into 2024. That sort of attention makes for a certain second wave. When a research project’s name becomes super popular but without an official product being behind it, someone sees the void as an opportunity.
It was basically that here from the end of 2024. Besides the name itself being catchy, any machine learning enthusiast would know, and having some search volume already, it had no official commercial presence to battle with. I think that’s nearly the perfect recipe for a successful token fast and hitching onto the wave of people searching about it and that was exactly the case in Solana’s Pump.fun launchpad, with a number of blogs written about it.
Why the Search Results Are So Contradictory
This wave of blog content is the reason why the search results are what they are, and it’s good to know about before believing anything one blog says, including this blog.
What ranks for this term is some of the information telling you that Life2Vec Crypto is a product that’s been built, has governance tokens, staking dashboards and feature roadmaps, which sound confident and specific. There are no details about that that can be traced back to anything published or confirmed by DTU, Northeastern, or the IT University of Copenhagen. It is not as though there are two sides to a reporting disagreement. Yes, that’s the difference between content that cited the primary source vs. content that did not, but when you’re describing a revolutionary AI blockchain in superlatives, it doesn’t matter if it actually exists or not.
Most of it can be filtered out with a simple filter: Does the article refer to life2vec.dk or the actual Nature paper, or does it only describe features and benefits? Quotes from the main source are valuable coverage. Any coverage that only describes the adjective and hypothetical use cases is coverage to be skeptical of here and anywhere else.
Official Answer from Life2Vec’s own researchers
This part isn’t ambiguous. Life2vec is the research team’s life support. In particular, to set the record straight, part of that page is a direct IMPERSONATION WARNING. It mentions specific sites such as life2vec.io, life2vecai.com, and even a separate spinoff site called death calculator, and makes it clear that these are fake and not affiliated with us.
The project’s funding mechanism is similar to the method by which most academic AI research is funded: via university and public research grants, not a token sale. No one from DTU, the IT University of Copenhagen, or Northeastern has yet announced any Life2Vec cryptocurrency, exchange listing, or blockchain partnership. So whenever a token’s marketing claims to be funding groundbreaking AI research or based on the real Life2Vec model, it’s coming from the token, not from any of the paper’s authors.
The Life2vec.io Token Launch: What’s on the inside?
One of these tokens deserves a look in particular, as the generic version of this scam demonstrates how intentional the branding was. On December 30, 2024, at 6 PM UTC, Life2vec.io launched its token on Pump.fun, which was accompanied by an AI Agent that would be paired with the coin to enable access to detailed health reports and an AI wealth advisor. Staking and governance were promised to happen at a later stage, and rewards such as completing wellness challenges were offered on the pitch.
The tokenomics seemed rather conservative for memecoin standards: a billion token supply, 80% of which was allocated to the community and liquidity, and a 3% developer allocation that the project said was permanently locked, while anti-sniper measures were implemented to prevent bots from influencing the token launch. All of this doesn’t affect the underlying problem. The actual Life2Vec model is not publicly available, and there was no actual technology to plug into the AI Agent to begin with. So the health and wealth predictions being touted were never actually possible, based on the underlying research, since the underlying research was never actually available to build upon outside of the initial team. Life2vec.io has since been registered and checked by independent site-reviewing services, and it’s always a good idea to know how to determine if a site like this is legitimate or not before you trust a slick website.
It’s a Pattern, Not a One-Off
Life2vec.io wasn’t the only one. Other tokens took similar aliases and fabricated backstories to go with them, such as a Life Token V2 or a Life Crypto ecosystem, which, apart from the token itself, was never seen before.
This can be done on purpose, but not by accident. DeFi platforms such as Pump.fun allow anyone to launch a token, giving it whatever name they like, in as little time as a few minutes, and without any vetting or establishing any relationship to anything that the name is attached to. This isn’t a conspiracy, it’s the actual mechanism: an AI term is put out into the world without a product behind it, and suddenly within days, there’s a micro industry of copycats, because the barrier to creating one is near zero. That’s part of the reason why trading in general is risky on memecoins, and why traders who stick around for the long haul are often the ones to employ stop losses as a rule, rather than an option.
How to tell a real project from a copycat
Some tests can detect most of this without any expense.
- Always go straight to the source. When a project states that it is connected to a particular research team, university, or company, check the university/company’s official website or verified accounts. Don’t assume that the token is affiliated with what it states.
- Be sure to read a true technical write-up and not marketing copy. The words AI-driven, next-generation, and revolutionary are a tone, not a technology. A legitimate project will have a whitepaper or public repository or paper trail in place before the token.
- Verify the deed holders of the tokens. Any wallet that is concentrated, an anonymous team, or only vague promises of locked allocations without on-chain proof should be perceived as a warning, not reassurance.
- Don’t be hasty about urgency. Countdown launches, exact-time reveals, and the real contract address will only be posted on X at launch” messaging are common memecoin-launch tactics designed to engender FOMO, not indicators that there is anything underneath that is legitimate.
All these checks can be performed in a matter of minutes, and together, they will identify the vast majority of copycat tokens before you are the one wondering what happened to your funds.
Here’s what people lose to this type of scam
This isn’t a hypothetical risk. In April 2026, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) published its 2025 Internet Crime Report, with numbers higher than they’ve ever recorded in their 25 years of existence. Total reported losses totaled approximately $20.9 billion, which is about 26% higher than the previous year. More than $11.3 billion of that was attributable to cryptocurrency-related fraud, in 181,565 complaints, a 21% increase from the previous year.
For the first time, AI-related fraud was tracked as a standalone category in the same report, comprising more than 22K complaints and nearly $893M in losses, a large portion of which involved AI-generated messaging, cloned voices, and chatbots to make scams more believable on a larger scale. Since its inception in 2024, the FBI’s proactive Operation Level Up has reached out to more than 8,000 individuals who seem to be falling victim to crypto scams and has helped avoid an additional loss of more than $500 million.
Coins that take a viral AI research name are a small part of this picture. But they seem to fall neatly into the template that the FBI is describing: AI branding with crypto and social media hype, targeting those who are interested in a true narrative but don’t have a convenient way to verify the facts themselves.
The researchers say that they use their own model
This is where most reporting on Life2Vec Crypto stops, and perhaps this is why the copycat coins are so far off the actual science.
Members of the Life2Vec team are especially wary of their own invention. They make it clear that they do not wish to use the model for any purpose that remotely resembles insurance underwriting, which is based on risk pooling, and the individuals involved will not know their insurance outcomes. For insurance to work, it should be a model that one couldn’t predict whether someone is going to fall ill or not. They also point out privacy and bias concerns that have not been addressed, and they know this isn’t a model that’s ready to go out the door and into a real decision-making process for real people.
They claim they’re not in the prediction-selling business. It’s to begin a public discussion on predictive modeling while it’s still not something that’s taking place in the dark, inside big tech firms. It is a very different attitude compared to a token that offers individual health and wealth advice, without any apparent model, and only shares the contract address when it is published.
Is there a Legitimate Version Ever?
It’s important to be fair to the idea itself, apart from the coins that are available on it. This isn’t something that’s inherently crazy, and there are legitimate projects that are exploring that larger space elsewhere in crypto with token incentives for data sharing.
However, there is nothing named Life2Vec Crypto around right now that is from the people that made Life2Vec. If that did change, it would most likely be via our DTU, Northeastern, or the researcher own networks, and not a surprise listing on a memecoin launch pad. Until it comes from the source as an announcement, taking anything with the words Life2Vec as being related to the research is what was once a guess, now in the disguise of a fact.
The Bottom Line on Life2Vec Crypto
The research, called Life2Vec, is interesting not only for the reasons outlined above. It is a fairly creative use of language-model methods with an unusual dataset, with the researchers unusually forthcoming about the dataset’s drawbacks. The coin, called Life2Vec Crypto, has no association to any of that. It has been outright rejected by the people whose name it carries and it definitely falls into a pattern that the FBI is looking for in its fraud data and not the pattern of legitimate research funding.
When you encounter a token on a hot research stock, that can be this one or any other, remember that the main source is the only source and check the contract address on a wallet scanner before you do anything else with your money.
